About this Episode
In this powerful video, we delve into the journey of Simon Rinne, a dedicated social worker and men's therapist, who used his own 30+ years of lived experience with mental illness to inspire men to open up about their struggles. Simon, based in Queensland's Sunshine Coast, is the passionate founder of Mindful Men, a therapy practice committed to supporting men with mental illness and disability.
In 2020, Simon himself experienced burnout—a result of navigating mental health challenges, a high-demand job, part-time masters study, family responsibilities, and the impact of COVID lockdowns. However, it was during this trying time that he discovered mindfulness, a transformative experience that led him to switch careers from a public servant to establishing Mindful Men.
Mindful Men is a thriving community offering a secure and supportive space for men, boys, and their support systems to address mental health and well-being concerns. We promote men's mental health through NDIS counseling services and therapy, creating an environment where individuals can freely express themselves and receive the support they need. Our mission is to empower every man to take control of their well-being.
In this heartfelt video, Simon shares his personal struggles with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and burnout. His openness and therapeutic approach, informed by his life experiences as a husband, father, and bloke, are backed by 15 years of experience in the Australian Public Service. He employs therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Mindfulness, Skills Training, and Psycho-Education to empower individuals along their recovery journey.
